On the 5th of September our Project had the honour to be presented in one of the most professional and scientific related conference in Slovenia the TBMCE 2024– ‘Technologies and Business Models for Circular Economy ‘.
Our representatives , Dr. Vilma Ducman, Head of Laboratory for Cements, Mortars and Ceramics from the Slovenian National Building and Civil Engineering Institute , Dr. Mojca Loncar Co-ordinator of projects for sustainable development from SIJ Acroni and Dr. Snježana Miletic from Geological survey of Slovenia participated in several discussion panels. They were involved by providing their inputs and sharing their experineces on critical raw materials and circural economy principles within the construction sector.
Georis Project had a dedicated slot where Dr. Mojca Loncar from SIJ Acroni presented the project’s progress and the milestones focusing on small scale demonstration.

In particular, Dr Mojca Loncar gave an overview of the project, its aims and objectives and presented the partnership , explaining how each partner contributes to the project implementaiton , illustrating how a diversed team can collaborate successfully.
The main core of the presentation revolved around the Work package 4 focusing at demonstrating and assessing GEORIS technology. The innovative geopolymerization technologies has been tested in the RIS area and optimized in the course of the pilot demonstrations
Using the geopolymerization technology, ENALOS and KUL valorised metallurgical residues to produce
pavement blocks and fire resistant panels. The developed products were assessed according to designed use with relevant standards (cement based pavers and EFNARC guidelines for fire testing).
Dr Mojca Loncar explained how steel slag was valorised by Partners to produce pavers completely without cement. For the production of pavers two mineral waste streams were used: a) by products from steel production and b) copper secondary production.
The presentation ended with the demonstration of a video from the first training and matchmaking event that took place on the 24th of April 2024 which showcased the whole process of the production of the pavers.
The GEORIS geopolymerization technology demonstrates innovative possibilities. showcase its competitive advantages to potential buyers and facilitate the adoption of the technology by relevant actors in the value chain.
Following the upscaling process a technical and economic analysis of produced products and environmental impact analysis have been performed.
In conclusion, we are really excited that we had the opprortunity to present our Project in the TBMCE 2024 and had the chance to attract more stakeholders and actors active in the construction sector.
